Slate
Notes that get out of your way.
Effective date: May 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Slate (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the App on iOS. We've kept it short and human.
Summary
Slate is built around a simple principle: your notes belong to you. The App stores your notes locally on your device and, if you enable it, syncs them through Apple iCloud to your other Apple devices.
We do not run servers that store your notes. We do not have an account system. We cannot read your notes.
Information stored on your device
When you use Slate, the following data is stored locally on your device:
- Notes you create, including their text, titles, and timestamps.
- App preferences such as theme, font, and sort order.
- Local app state needed to make Slate work (such as last-opened note).
This data lives in Slate's app sandbox on your iPhone or iPad. Deleting the App removes all of this local data.
iCloud sync (optional)
If you sign in to iCloud and enable iCloud Drive / CloudKit for Slate, your notes are synced to your private iCloud container so they appear on your other Apple devices.
iCloud sync is operated by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Your notes are stored in your personal iCloud account — we do not have access to them.
You can disable iCloud sync for Slate at any time in iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud.
Information we do NOT collect
We want to be explicit about this. Slate does not:
- Collect, transmit, or sell your notes.
- Require an account, email, or phone number.
- Use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
- Track you across other apps or websites.
- Access your contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or location.
In-app purchases and subscriptions
If Slate offers paid features, payments are processed by Apple through the App Store using your Apple ID. We never receive or store your payment information. Apple shares only the minimum purchase status needed to unlock features.
Diagnostics
If you opt in to share diagnostics with developers in iOS Settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports through Apple's standard reporting tools. These reports do not contain your notes or personal information.
Children
Slate is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. Because we do not collect personal information at all, this applies to every user.
Your rights
Because your notes live on your device (and optionally in your own iCloud account), you are always in control. You can edit or delete your notes at any time inside the App, and deleting the App removes all local data.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you inside the App.
